Updated, March 2010: I have been getting many inquiries into how to play music in ventrilo. Well, folks, it's not a simple setup, and there are multiple techniques. But, if you know how to wire a high-def television set, you are qualified to setup a vent music player using this one proven method below. Yes, you will have to basically hack Windows 7/Vista so you can bypass its stupid ‘signed drivers' security policy. But I've used the popular DSEO method, and it has not compromised my computer stability or security in the slightest.
Voice communication over the internet. Choose the version of the client software that matches your platform. Click here to see what's new in the latest release. Yes the bot has the rest of vent muted, if its in a channel with out my main user there, people listen to music fine, they don't hear them selves or anything. And it would be pointless to mute everyone on my main user, thus getting rid of the whole music in the background point of it. I tried vac, but it doesn't work with windows 7.
Requirements to play ventrilo music in Windows 7 or Vista:
- Winamp music player
- 'Virtual Audio Cable' (music routing software, available via bittorrents)
- DSEO bypass of Windows Signed Driver policy
- Tweaking of your Ventrilo shortcut to enable double ventrilo copies
- At least 2GB of memory. 4GB+ ideally
- Approximately 1 hour to install, configure, and test the setup
- *Ideally: double monitors, so you don't have to alt-tab from game to choose songs

I) Winamp is the easiest software to configure, IMHO. I have tried iTunes, Windows Media Player, and CyberDJ, but Winamp took the least work.
II) Virtual Audio Cable (download here) is how you will 'wire' your headset/speakers/microphone to allow both regular conversation AND music streaming). If you get the trial version, you will get an annoying ‘audio watermark' repeating in the background. Your best bet is to find VAC via a bittorrent download, like http://www.isohunt.com.
III) You will need to run a double instance of ventrilo: one vent ID for your regular self, and a separate vent ID for your music player. Two copies of the software will need to run simultaneously for this to work.
IV) Expect to spend at least an hour to prepare and test the platform. It is approximately the same effort as wiring a receiver into your high-def TV and DVD player… many cables to connect, so to speak!
V) Driver Signature Enforcement Override download here. This is the utility that will allow you to use development software like Virtual Audio Cable on Windows 7. Microsoft likes to charge software programmers who try to write programs for Windows (like Virtual Audio Cable), and they try to lock out those programmers who won't pay for Microsoft driver certification. By using the DSEO utility, you can permit development software like VAC to run on your box.
